Gather the business facts
Legal name, formation date, entity type, responsible party, ownership, business activity, addresses, expected employees, accounting period, and tax-election decisions can affect the setup path.
Keep sensitive fields separate
Tax workflows can require Social Security numbers or other personal identifiers. Those fields should not be stored in an ordinary reusable profile or copied casually across applications. Use the official or specifically secured workflow required for that purpose.
Map more than the EIN
A federal EIN does not automatically complete state income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, unemployment, excise, local tax, or industry-specific registrations. Requirements depend on facts and jurisdiction.
Do not guess at elections
Entity tax classifications and elections can have timing, eligibility, compensation, payroll, and owner-level consequences. Treat them as professional-review decisions when the answer depends on the owners’ circumstances.
